Will the Circle Be Unbroken is one of the best-known songs in the gospel and bluegrass traditions. Its melody comes from an early-20th-century hymn (“Can the Circle Be Unbroken”), and the Carter Family’s 1935 recording turned it into an enduring country and folk standard. Today it’s a favorite jam-session and gospel-set closer that almost everyone can join in on.
It sits comfortably in the key of G and moves through a simple, singable progression, which makes it a great tune for practicing your backup and for leading a group sing at a jam. Play along with the band above at whatever tempo suits your circle.
