Salt River — better known in bluegrass circles as “Salt Creek” — is a traditional American fiddle reel that dates back well over a century, with early commercial recordings by the Kessinger Brothers around 1929–1931. Bill Monroe recorded and popularized it under the new name “Salt Creek” in the mid-1960s.
It's a driving, modal-flavored tune, played here with G shapes and a capo at the 2nd fret to sound in A. Its two parts move through G, C, F, and D — great for a strong, propulsive backup and a lot of fun to solo over.
